A Grand Success: Sommet sur le rapprochement des francophonies canadiennes
From June 12
th to 17
th, the long-awaited
summit on the Rapprochement des Francophonies canadiennes took place in a virtual capacity,
uniting over 900 representatives of French communities from all over Canada. While each French community experiences unique culture and ways of life, in the words of the president of the summit, it is “the collective responsibility [of all French speakers] to bring French to life on a daily basis, in our community, our province or territory, and our country, and to pass on our language to
future generations.”
This summit is a monumental event in French Canadian history, as it is the first time in many years that Quebecois and other French communities in Canada came together on a major scale to build bridges and promote the Canadian Francophonie. The summit is also set to guide the
renewal of Quebec’s policy on the Canadian Francophonie, which has not been updated in over a decade.
The summit is being
considered a major success, with the opening of doors for new ideas and collaboration between Quebec, Acadian, and Francophone communities in Canada. While the work is far from over, it is exciting to see a strong commitment to the concrete mobilization of bringing together Canadian Francophonies.
Avantage Ontario was represented at the summit, the Consortium looks forward to contributing to this important movement for the future of the Canadian Francophonie.
