Black History Month

Every February, people across Canada participate in events and celebrations for Black History Month to honor the heritage and legacy of Black Canadians and their communities. The 2022 theme for Black History Month is “February and Forever: Celebrating Black History today and every day”, to recognize the daily contributions Black Canadians make to Canada. There will be a virtual celebration on February 17, 2022, at 7 p.m.  Many institutions participate in the celebration by hosting various events. For example, the University of Ottawa is organizing a few events such as the “Black Excellence Talent Show” to highlight the value of Black art and culture; along with an educational workshop about anti-racism, guided by the uOttawa Antiracist History Group and Le Groupe d’action contre le racisme anti-noir(e) (GACRAN)  Avantage Ontario also dedicated the week of January 24 to the 28 to the celebration of the Black population, following the World Day for African and Afrodescendant Culture.
