Canadian History Week is acknowledged each November by the Canadian government to encourage Canadians and those who call Canada home to reflect and discover the history of the country. Each year has a theme, ranging from sports, human rights and environment and climate. This year, the official theme is Indigenous History. To learn more about the history of Indigenous Peoples in Canada, you may consider reading one of these 35 books by First Nations, Métis and Inuit authors. Learning about aspects of Canadian history is a great way discover and immerse yourself in the country you are studying in. Because the Country is so large geographically, the history is very rich and diverse, and it has taken many years to develop into the country we know today. This video is a great crash course on Canadian history. What’s more, if you wish to eventually seek Canadian Citizenship following your studies, part of the process includes a Canadian Citizenship Test, which includes questions about history, geography, symbols and laws in Canada. You can practice for this test, or simply enhance your knowledge about Canada for fun by using the official study guide, or other great resources, like this one from the Toronto Public Library.
