Modernizing the Immigration System to Accelerate Applications

On January 31, 2022, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC) announced measures to improve the client experience and modernize the immigration system.  The government's goal is to return to normal processing service standards for applications by the end of the year, including for study permits, work permits and permanent resident card renewals.   To speed up processing, the government is also taking steps to reduce processing times for visitor visas and proof of citizenship. Already, IRCC has hired 500 new processing staff, and is already using artificial intelligence to analyze applications, showing that files can now be assessed 87% faster.   The transition to an online application process will minimize COVID-19-related delays associated with processing paper applications, clients will be able to receive an immediate confirmation that their submission was successful. IRCC will also introduce a new Permanent Residence Application Tracker in February, to allow clients to easily access their application information and status online.   The government is committed to modernizing its immigration system to ensure that all eligible foreign nationals wanting to come to Canada have a positive experience.
