Toronto Experiencing Massive Tech Boom

Many tech companies have found a home in Toronto; the city experiencing a massive tech boom. In late February, Microsoft opened four floors of new office space near the top of a 50-story glass tower in downtown Toronto, the same area in which Apple and Amazon already have towers. A few blocks north, a tower is being finished for Pinterest. As the technology industry develops communities outside of Silicon Valley, Toronto’s position as a global leader is reinforced. Toronto is now the third-largest tech hub in North America. The city is home to more tech workers than Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle and Washington, D.C. Its roots in technology run deep, and it has the resources to maintain this status as it is the 5th largest city in North America.

Toronto has anchor companies that can have a transformative impact. These anchor companies — including Canadian e-commerce company Shopify as well as many American giants — have come to Toronto for the researchers and engineers who are already here. Many of whom came to Ontario as international students. But they also believe the talent pool will continue to grow. Along with this, because of the number of postsecondary institutions in the area, graduates and students alike will be able to form connections, which will create a pipeline for hiring. The giant tech companies have set up offices in Toronto alongside many Canadian startups.
