Bilingual Job Applicants Are More in Demand Than Ever
Hiring managers in Ontario are struggling to fill positions in the current job market due to a lack of bilingual job applicants. With this, Francophone candidates are in the driver's seat. Bilingual job applicants are coveted and have greater control of salary demands and perks. Bilingual job candidates are generally worth from 10 to 30 % more than English-only candidates. French speakers are in high demand, to such an extent that some positions have been sitting empty for months on end. At the end of 2021, the number of job vacancies in Canada was at an all-time high, and the number of bilingual candidates has lowered exponentially. This, coupled with the impact of the pandemic on the job market, has made jobs more attainable. As the economy recovers from the pandemic, it is likely that even more jobs will be created in the years to come.
