Government of Canada Lightens Border Measures as Part of Transition of the Pandemic Response

As provinces and territories adjust their public health measures, and Canada transitions away from the crisis phase, the Government established it is now time to move towards a more sustainable approach to long-term management of COVID-19. The Government of Canada announced that as of February 28th 2022 they will be lightening border measures, and easing travel restrictions. For example, fully vaccinated travellers will no longer need to provide a pre-entry COVID-19 test result as of April 1st, 2022; they may only have to take a test on arrival if selected for mandatory random testing.

This transition is able to happen due to a number of factors, such as Canada’s high vaccination rates, the increasing availability of rapid tests, decreased hospitalization rates and growing domestic availability of therapeutics and treatments. As of March 13, 2022, 81% of the total population is fully vaccinated. The Government of Canada has also deployed over 461 million rapid tests across Canada to help identify and limit the spread of the virus.

As the border measures lighten, it will be increasingly easier for international students to enter the country. To get up-to-date information, it is important to consult the Government of Canada website in the section for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada
